Next Step Recovery is committed to supporting our patients’ successful transition.
We work closely with individuals, families, treatment facilities, educational consultants, and other health-care providers to ensure we meet every client exactly where they are in their individual recovery journey. With our patients’ consent, we welcome ongoing communication with their extended support team including family members, referring professionals, and other care providers.
If you are a referring professional, the following information can help your clients and their families join our recovery support community.
Safe and Structured
Next Step Recovery’s structured recovery program includes:
- Intensive Outpatient Program
- SACOT Program
- Individual case management
- Mandatory daily 12-step work
- Individual and group counseling
- Job search support services
- Life skills education & sober recreation
We offer a unique blend of clinical and peer-based support of Licensed professional counselor and clinical addictions specialist, certified substance abuse counselor, house and case managers, sponsors, and fellow residents who share their own recovery experience, strength and wisdom.
Intensive Outpatient Program
Our 12-week SACOT/ intensive Outpatient Program provides the perfect bridge from inpatient treatment and offers extra clinical support for individuals with complicated addictions histories, multiple relapses or little experience in recovery. Our SACOT/IOP is open to our recovery program residents at NSR of Asheville and The Greater Asheville Community.

Susan Stader is the founder and director of Next Step Recovery and NSR of Asheville, an Intensive Outpatient Program and a Long-term Extended Care program in Asheville, NC. She received her Master’s in Community Counseling in 2004 at Western Carolina University and went on to get her licensure in addictions and mental health counseling. Susan believes that treatment should be gender-specific and offered in a small setting. Small recovery communities, such as hers, are more intimate and effective in overall client satisfaction and care.
