“Next Step Recovery is an Intensive Outpatient Program for Men in the Asheville, North Carolina Community. We provide structured 12-week programs for men between 18 to 40 years of age who are recovering from substance abuse who need extra clinical support to successfully transition.”
We are raising awareness about the importance of support from family and friends in a patient’s recovery. There is a positive effect for gatherings of families and friends, especially this Thanksgiving for patients who are suffering from addiction. More family information can be read at https://nextsteprecovery.com/families/.
Our program equips men with interpersonal skills that can help repair relationships which is important specifically with family. In a family unit, the one who is addicted is not the only one that needs healing. Addiction takes a tremendous toll on families who often struggle for years with the emotional, financial, and physical consequences of untreated addiction. Recovery often includes a relapse, job loss, and tumultuous relationships. These patterns can rapidly snowball particularly when families don’t get support for their own recovery process. Even the best recovery programs can fail to heal long-standing family trauma without complete buy-in.
We stress that the road to recovery is hard to survive alone and we encourage families and friends of those suffering from addiction to reach out. Even though the fight is hard and never easy, it is worth it in the end. We believe recovery is a family journey that should include family recovery support. It is always better when those on the journey to recovery have the support from those they love. Families can have a tremendous positive impact on recovery when they commit to their own healing. In fact, recovery offers many opportunities to build stronger families through self-discovery, personal growth, and cultivating more authentic, healthy relationships. A testimonial from S.A., a family member, says, “As parents of a man who is struggling with addiction, it has been gut-wrenching, to say the least. After several inpatient treatments and other facilities, Next Step Recovery has been a godsend to us, as well as to our son. Next Step Recovery is committed to helping their residents’ transition into normal, addiction-free life. They do this by providing life-skills training and requiring several AA meetings each week. The program is designed to give these men back their pride and dignity. We have seen a change in our son. Probably the biggest difference with Next Step Recovery is they care. Susan and Mick have a place in their hearts for their residents, and they care about them. They want them to be successful. They have always been there for us and my son – anytime we needed them. They understand what the residents and their families are going through. You will not find a more caring, well-equipped, or safer place than Next Step Recovery. God bless the staff and their work there.”
A testimonial from Z.B., a client, says, “Next Step Recovery was exactly what I needed in the early stages of my recovery! I spent so many years of my life hiding behind a bottle, and I couldn’t take it anymore! Susan and her staff helped me to get back on my feet and start the process of moving on and loving life without the use of alcohol or drugs. After my 3 months here with the next step, I chose to stay in Asheville and continue to work on myself, with their guidance. I couldn’t imagine my life today if I was still stuck in my old ways, Thank you Next Step Recovery!”
